Spoon in London

I was thinking of Caleb Followill when I headed with my visiting pal Mel to see Spoon Monday night. When asked what he takes with him on a tour he mentioned antibacterial hand gel. He said that people don’t want to miss a show once they have gotten tickets, even if they are sick. Even though I have been miserable sick for the past week, I had to go to the show, leaving before the encore.

The sold out show at Scala was unbelievable. The venue was great, a lot like The Pageant in St. Louis. Mel and I stood at the front of the balcony. They played the majority of the new record, Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga, and songs from other records like Gimme Fiction. I wish I could say more about the show besides they sounded great and I felt like crap, but that sums it up. --J

Cloverfield Soundtrack?

I went to see Cloverfield this weekend and jumped out of my seat about five times. Wow, that movie did not disappoint. Did anyone else catch the thing falling into the Atlantic Ocean off Coney Island during the last scene? I don't usually catch that kind of stuff, but perhaps watching Lost has trained me. Anyway, as I was listening to some of the songs during the party I couldn't help but think of J because Kings of Leon's Taper Jean Girl as well as Spoon's The Underdog played. There's no official soundtrack out, but I did find this link in which someone posted the songs in the movie (I was too busy trying to keep it together to write down the songs!) J, apparently two KoL songs made it in. -K

Spoon on Sound Opinions

I was pleasantly surprised to hear Spoon featured on the latest Sound Opinions episode. I listen to Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga often during my weekend commutes and it is by far my favorite album of 2007. Check out the podcast. --J

My Favorite Summer Song

My friend S is way into Spoon these days so I thought I would check them out. I’m now obsessed with some of the songs on their new record. My absolute favorite You Got Yr Cherry Bomb is my pick for summer single. It’s been on repeat every time I get in my car. I also really like The Underdog. People probably fall into two categories when they listen to music; they either focus in on the lyrics or the instrumentation. No surprise probably, I’m a lyrics person. I have no idea what the lyrics of these songs are because I am totally taken in by the melody. Check em out. --J
