I finally saw Madonna's new video for 4 Minutes. I love the chemistry between Justin and Madonna in this fast-paced dance video. The song is pretty amazing, too. -K
Check out the video here.

Schadenfreude - [shahd-n-froi-duh]
dictionary.com defines this word as: satisfaction or pleasure felt at someone else's misfortune. As I read the reviews of Britney's performance, schadenfreude summarized the comments.
I’m probably not as nice as K is. When the pre-show began, it was 1:00 in the morning for me. There’s nothing I love more than sleep so goddamnit you better entertain me. The thing about Britney is that it is obvious that she surrounds herself with people that have no sense. Britney is a beautiful woman. I would think it would be a heck of a lot easier to put her in flattering clothes and make her look pretty but instead, someone went in another direction, making her look like she had a beer gut and greasy hair. While I feel somewhat sorry for her, I’m glad that FINALLY, there’s a sucky performance (there have been many over the years)that people are actually saying sucked! Did anyone really think that bullshit performance with Madonna and Christina Aguilera a few years ago was any good? Of course it wasn’t but we had to hear how cutting edge it was.
Does anyone care at all about Kid Rock and Tommy Lee? I think they totally staged that to get some needed publicity. I could hear the cell phone conversation before the show:
Tommy Lee calling Kid: Dude! You know how neither one of us have had a hit in years?
Kid Rock: Uh,yeah
Tommy Lee: Let’s fake fight at the VMAs so we can keep getting free drinks in Vegas.
Kid Rock: Sure.
Tommy Lee: Rad!
My favourite moments:
1. Beyonce getting the no cheek when she went to kiss 50 Cent after she won her award.
2. After John Norris saying to Dave Grohl that he was the musical leader for the night, he responded laughingly with “Yeah and I’m a high school dropout!”
3. Justin Timberlake jumping up and down like a kid after he won an award.
I am sure there are lots of good moments we missed in the fantasy suites, however, we got stock in the main room with the bullshit. --J

The Joys of Live Television
This is just an add-on to J's post about Saturday night and the whole Arch situation. Channel 5, which is our local NBC affiliate, interrupted SNL to cover the "breaking news." While the camera zoomed in on the observatory section of the Arch, Channel 5 began to air a live cell phone conversation with someone else who was stuck. This conversation made the seemingly unnecessary interruption worth it. The "victim", who I guarantee was having a festive night, said (and I'm paraphrasing) "We're doing great. We're all taking pictures and having a blast. Hey, why are you guys cutting into SNL for this? It's Justin Timberlake tonight. I called a buddy of mine a few minutes ago and he wants to see Dick in a Box." Channel 5 immediately ended the conversation and cut to the news desk. I rewound it a few times just to hear it again and again. -K
P.S. If you haven't seen Justin's Dick in a Box...

Justin Timberlake's FutureSex/LoveSound

This record has a few standout tracks but while I listened to it, either I’m not the intended audience, or there’s just a lot of slow to medium tempo filler on this record.
Track 1 - Futuresex/Lovesound – Love this song.
Track 2 – Sexyback – Yes, I admit it. It’s a regular on my iPod, especially when working out.
Track 4 – My Love – This is where I begin to wonder if I am just not getting contemporary R&B music. I like the track but could do with out the rap interlude from T.I. Why must we have a rap in the middle of a song?!
Track 8 – Damn Girl – If the rap by that asshole from the Black Eye Peas wasn’t in it, I would love this song. The horns and keyboards give it a classic R&B vibe.
Track 11 – Losing My Way – Really Justin, we need a cautionary tale in the form of a song? If I want to hear about addiction, I’ll tune in to an episode of A&E’s Intervention.
Track 13 – (Another Song) All Over – This track is the only one on the CD that was produced by Rick Rubin and it does sound different. It is one of my favorite tracks on the record because it is simple in its arrangement and showcases Justin’s voice. It’s a makeup song in the best way.
I would rate this an unfortunate because there’s a lot of filler on this CD. However, I would recommend downloading tracks one, two, and twelve to hear Justin at his best, and then go out and buy Prince’s Dirty Mind and 1999 if you don’t already own them. --J

Which is worse?

The scene of the crime was a suburban St. Louis middle school, Friday, September 15th, 2006. A., a sixth grader and novice to the ways of the school dance, attends her first. Streamers were hung in the gymnasium, and the substitute teacher/DJ begins to spin some tunes. What’s the next song on the playlist? “I Write Sins, Not Tragedies” by Panic! at the Disco, and before Brendan Urie can sing his second “Goddamned”, Principal M. as A. explains it, “shuts it down”. As they drive her home from the dance, A’s parents curiously ask what other songs were played throughout the night. The big hit was “SexyBack” by Justin Timberlake. So are we to believe that "Goddamned” is worse than "I'll let you whip me if I misbehave"? I am glad not to have to be the judge. Play them all. --J

N’Sync, N’Sync Everywhere

I am so glad Justin Timberlake is bringing SexyBack. Geez, it's been out of style for too long! Joking aside, I love the new single, and I am sure it will be my guilty pleasure for the rest of the summer.
Now on to Lance Bass… Lance Bass came out this week. This announcement reminded me of a story I like to have our friend M tell over and over again. About four years ago, M had to go visit a client. Keep in mind this is a business setting. One of the clients that he met with at this organization was a 40ish woman who showed up to the meeting in a mesh top, N’Sync buttons, and an N’Sync lanyard that held her work badge. M was intrigued and at break, he tried to engage this woman in an N’Sync conversation. One of the things she said in a very gruff voice was, “My favorite is LAANCEY”. I love that she was out and proud about being an N’Sync fan. You know, it’s not illegal. --J
